The wheel of life. And you can give the ten to only one.

The wheel of life is a photo of your life from above: eight areas, a score for each. On its own it’s a useful but slightly toothless tool, because in the “where I want to be” part everyone draws nothing but tens. But everything at ten isn’t a life, it’s a spreadsheet.

So I changed the rules. In the second step you hand out the values like limited resources: you can use the ten only once. The nine only once. And so on. Exactly like life, where a day has 24 hours and you have to decide what gets the best ones. This pressure gets out of you what an ordinary wheel doesn’t: priorities.

Step 1 — where I am now

For each area, move the slider to a score of 0–10. Don’t worry about how it “should be”. Score it by how you really feel in that area over the last month.

Step 2 — where I want to be (limited resources)

Hand out the target values to the areas. You can use each value (10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3) only once.

If you don’t feel like giving some area a three or a four, good. That uncomfortable feeling is exactly the work: saying out loud that something matters less now, so that something else can matter for real.

Your wheel

Where I am now
Where I want to be

A round wheel rolls better than a jagged one. But no living person has a circle. What’s interesting is mainly where the shape and the dashed line drift furthest apart.

Step 3 — one area

And now the most important decision. If in the coming months you were allowed to move forward in one single area only, which one would it be? Not the one with the worst score. The one whose shift would change your life the most. Often, by the way, it isn’t the same one.

What you fill in is saved to your browser as you go. Even if you come back in a month, you’ll find it here.

The wheel showed you where. It won’t show you how.

What you have now is a diagnosis and a priority. Getting from one number to the next is the work I do with clients in sessions: what really blocks that area, how much of it is habit, how much is fear, and what the first step is. The intro session is free and commits you to nothing.
